Description of restoration work needed for Majakka Hall

Phase I
Stabilization is the first priority for the restoration work on the Hall. Several areas of the building were facing serious water damage. The front porch landing of the Hall developed a slow leak that began to create water damage through the foundation, as well as the plaster of the basement ceiling and walls. During Phase I restoration, an experienced contractor using historic restoration techniques repaired this damage while maintaining the historic integrity of the Hall.

Phase II
A basement leak in the Northeast corner of the building needed to be prevented. This involved installing a subsurface drainage system and regrading the area around the foundation, as it was creating a pooling of water between the foundation and concrete walkway.
Grants and donors made Phase I and II restoration possible. Thank You!!
Future phases of restoration include: windows, painting & interior work. Bids have been obtained for future work and descriptions of the restoration will be posted on this website.
Window Restoration will begin Fall 2016!
The windows in the tower as pictured in the picture above and below will be restored by TMC Windows. This company specializing in window restoration will help us preserve the historic windows. Unexpected restoration needed
In 2014 raccoons had to be removed from the tower by a professional wildlife control specialist. Thankfully, a grant from DeKalb County Community Foundation made this possible. A preliminary bid was obtained to repair the damage to the tower and soffits from raccoons. A donation by Mike Nelson helped to replace slats torn out by the raccoons on the side of the tower shown in this picture.
